Ideal for people who find the dry heat of a classic sauna uncomfortable.

What is a steam sauna?

In a steam bath, temperatures are around 50 degrees Celsius. It's a lot cooler, like in a Finnish sauna. The humidity is also higher in a steam sauna. It is so high that water droplets form, which we call steam. A modern sauna cabin for a steam bath is equipped with tiles or ceramics. Such a modern sauna has the great advantage that it can be cleaned quickly. But there are also Finnish saunas made of wood for everyone who doesn't want to miss out on the cozy atmosphere that the wood creates.

Steam bath or Finnish sauna is a matter of taste

A steam bath in a steam sauna is not just mild. It has just as many health benefits as a classic sauna session, if not more. Even if a steam bath in a steam sauna is perceived as something completely different than a visit to a classic sauna. As far as health is concerned, there is no disadvantage in choosing a steam bath over going to a Finnish sauna. Quite the opposite.

The Romans already appreciated steam baths

Steam saunas and associated steam baths are not a modern invention: the Romans already valued steam baths and used the steam for their health. Roman emperors built huge baths and sophisticated bathing facilities. Today such facilities would be described as wellness temples. They celebrated going to the baths and thus ensured that the skin was cleansed and its immune system strengthened. In some places the remains of such Roman bathing facilities can still be visited. While bathing culture and steam baths were very important in ancient Greece and the Romans, they were long forgotten in many places. The Finns were a nation in which bathing culture, steam baths and saunas were important. But fortunately, healthy saunas and steam baths are now more popular than ever.

The equipment of a steam sauna

A modern steam sauna is equipped with a steam boiler instead of a sauna heater. Hot steam is generated in this. This steam is fed directly into the steam sauna and ensures a warm temperature of around 50 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 80 to 100 percent. Mobile saunas have a small, mobile steam boiler that ensures the right humidity and heat in the outer shell.

The steam bath stimulates blood circulation and relaxes the muscles. It is also an excellent opportunity for athletes to actively regenerate. The high humidity is actually beneficial for the body and health. The pores of the skin open better and excess sebum and other substances are removed more easily. Regular steam baths can ensure healthier and more beautiful skin. The moist heat also ensures that the airways open and mucus can be released more easily. It is not for nothing that a steam bath is often seen as a way to prevent colds. If you have a cold coming on, special scents and essential oils used in the steam bath can work wonders. Please note, however, that you only use products that are intended for this purpose so that your steam boiler is not damaged.
